Jen working hard to straighten her knees while extending her ankles and hips; not an easy task under a heavy kettlebell

Matt and Jen C. are two of the IC’s most well-rounded athletes. From Boot Camp to Battle Zone and Kettlebells to Powerlifting, these two know how to take their Family Flex membership to the next level! In addition to working together professionally, they’re also the proud parents of two active young boys. How do Jen and Matt do it all?

Matt working just as hard to extend his ankles, knees, and hips without bending his elbows; not an easy task when attempting to then land underneath a loaded barbell

Team Name: The Power Cords

Claim to Fame: Jennifer is a Candidate for Master of Sport in kettlebell lifting and coffee drinking. She is currently training with a stainless steel mug and a 24kg (53 lb.) kettlebell in preparation for the WKC’s World Championship in October.  Matt played baseball for UC Davis, but is most famous these days for powerlifting. He recently deadlifted 435lbs. in a red leotard singlet.  Despite these notable achievements, they are perhaps most famous for their high level referee skills during bouts between their two boys in the IC parking lot.

Potential Team Strength:  In addition to triple lattes, the power of training the triple extension with either a kettlebell or barbell to enhance human performance should never be underestimated.  As competitive lifters, they have both had practice slaying their own inner dragons and facing unforeseen opponents.

Potential Team Weakness: Will the pentathlon prove to be too much togetherness for Matt and Jen?

    They are such rock stars!

  2. Steph (and Joe - woof) says:

I LOVE Matt and Jen! Matt is such a nice person in battle zone even when I dork out or screw up. He’s so patient. And – like JD – he is exceptionally springy. Now that my busted wing is finally healing maybe I can come back to KB soon and get further inspired by Jen.

  3. Jim says:

An intimidating duo. . . assuming that the bench press doesn’t come into play. ;)

  4. Renee HN says:

Just another great example of wonderful people who happen to make a great couple and parents. This is exactly why I should be a judge!

  5. James L. says:

OK….. I need to find my other half to compete in this pentathtlon! Anybody want to partner up?

  6. Jen C says:

For the record, Matt was also an All-American in lacrosse at Davis as goalie…just thought I’d mention that, because, if nothing else being a goalie means sacrificing your own comfort and well-being for the sake of…THE WIN! YES! BE AFRAID! BE V E R Y AFRAID!!
Also it’s only fair to mention that I started working at Peet’s Coffee at the tender age of 19, so it’s their fault that I’m addicted to coffee. I take no personal responsibility here. OH and one last thing…I was voted the best cappuccino barista in 1991. Can that be an event? Thank you.

  7. Leslie P. says:

    Shouldn’t someone be contacting ESPN?

  8. Lisa M says:

We are afraid. We are V E R Y afraid. But I want to see Matt in his little red leotard. It’ll help with the intimidation factor.

  9. Jill says:

    TERR-I-FIED… Of the red leotard!

  10. sherry says:

Lol! I don’t think Maya characterized the red leotard as “little” but I would agree they are form-fitting especially the ones from eBay for $8.99. Go Matt and Jen “1991 Barista of the Year”!

  11. LisaB says:

WOW – you two are amazing!!! look at the form in both photos!
good luck to the rest of the teams!!!!
