Challenges | August 21, 2011

The long awaited (and overdue) IC Couples Challenge has finally arrived… with a new format! This year, we designed a Pentathlon course that will lead you to the brink of mental and physical breakdown. Anyone can start, but not everyone will finish…

Rules and regulations:
1. Teams are comprised of any two IC members.
2. Five events to be divided among two people (one person takes on two events and the other takes on three).
3. Each event must be completed by only one team member.
4. Events will not be disclosed until the day of the contest.
5. Every event in the Pentathlon must be completed in order to qualify for ranking.
6. Teams must finish the entire Pentathlon in one hour or less.
7. The fastest team wins.
8. Good luck.

Date to be determined (late November or early December). Two trophies and the title of “2011 IC Team Pentathlon Winner” will be awarded to the fastest team.  Please register below.  There is no cost for participants, but we are on the hunt for volunteers to help referee and set-up this spectacular event!

Oh-em-gee…is this the first annual IC prom? I nominate Jill for IC prom queen and Matt C for IC prom king. How fun!!!

  2. Jen C says:

Well, OK, if Matt wants Jill to be his partner I guess that’s OK…sigh. ;)

Any breakdown of all women, all men, and co-ed teams? Or just fastest team overall? Seems like the all-guys teams might have an advantage. Not that I’m competitive or anything.

  3. Steven says:

You can configure the team anyway you want. All male, all female, co-ed, your choice. It’s open class, open weight division. I don’t think the men necessarily have an advantage. Have you seen the IC women workout recently?

  4. Leslie P. says:

I would so love to participate in this event, but unfortunately I have a marathon Dec 6th. If the event doesn’t fall on that weekend, I’d be up for helping out.

  5. Steven says:

Leslie P, I’ve heard you use that marathon excuse more than once. Everytime we do something of a great significance you have a marathon. Hmmmm… it’s becoming very suspect.

  6. Lisa M. says:

Sounds fun. It does seem like the all-guys team will have an advantage though. There are probably fifteen plus guys that could beat the fastest women’s time in the half mile or mile, and plenty of guys that lift heavier weights then you-know-who.

If, say, Matt C and John M decide to team up here are the things I think we *might* beat them in: sit ups, trapeze, Glee trivia.

  7. Renee HN says:

Last time we did this, Rune got sent out on fires in So.Cal and Haakon stepped in :which was fun :) Looks like it might be post wildfire season. But maybe Rune and Haakon can be a team- any kind of water sports!? ha ha

Good to see it back, and good luck to us all!

  8. Steph says:

Will there be a cheese eating contest? If yes, Joe and I are SO IN!

  9. Sayaka says:

It sounds like fun- as long as its not the first weekend of December…

Once we know the events the day of, will we be able to choose which person does which event, or will it be assigned to us?

  10. Tracy C says:

Ah, the old “Marathon Excuse” :)
I have no excuse: Just Scared.

  11. Leslie P. says:

Steven–you caught me! Running 26.2 miles is waaaaaayyyy less grueling/scary/painful than whatever you all might cook up.

But I’m still up for volunteering….

  12. Steph says:

Me too, Tracy! But, I’d like to design the course after watching American Ninja Warrior tonight. Two words: SALMON LADDER.

  13. Steven says:

“Once we know the events the day of, will we be able to choose which person does which event, or will it be assigned to us?”

You can choose, but do it wisely!

  14. Steven says:

    How about December 10th?

  15. Jim says:

Steve, I know it’s earlier than you were originally thinking, but I’d put in a vote for Nov. 12. I think I could probably make Dec. 10 work, but I might be travelling.

  16. Sayaka says:

December 10th works for me…it sounds awesome!!!!

  17. Seth says:

I’d vote for Dec. 10th over Nov. 12th. Then again whatever inconveniences the competition is my preference.

  18. Maria says:

December 10th works for me. I would not be able to make it November 12th.

  19. Dado says:

I vote Dec. 5th. Weren’t you leaning towards that Steve? Erykah Badu is in SF on the 9th. Pretty much definitely.
