The worst for me was the second personal training session I did with Jess. Why the second? Because I left the first one thinking “It can’t possibly get any worse.” And then it did.
That second session was when I realized that the “it can’t possibly get any worse” mantra was just not going to work at the Ice Chamber.
It was the day I earned my T-shirt. A boot camp circuit that was an intensive combination tabatas with active rests that involved a lot of jumping up and down (burpees, box jumps and sprints). I almost made it
My first ever workout at the Ice Chamber (back in Dec 2007), Saturday Core. After the workout, I remember Loredie coming up to me as I was seated, and asking me, “Honey, are you alright?” I barely could respond, in between my gasps for air, “Please give me 15 minutes.” Oh… and I got a free IC shirt that day.
One year ago today! My first Core class. I believe Steve went out of his way to test my mettle. They haven’t gotten any easier, I am just better prepared.
Tabatas are always brutal, but usually it’s a boot camp when Jess pulls out her “once a month” tabatas session…so I thought I was safe–relatively–going to Jess’ Tuesday night core class, only to realize it was…yes, TABATAS that night, but for AN HOUR not the typical 45 minutes. Oh-My-God. Please can we get a schedule.
the one I just did! (that answer seems to be true every couple of weeks). Other than tonight (burpees as the first part of the warm-up!, rowing, weighted sit-ups, spinning, run around the building, partner carry laps, yeah, yeah, yeah!), the one that sticks out was the Saturday mile and a half sand-bag carry run – with sand-bag presses and push-ups as the “breaks”
Every tuesday night.

6min jerk with the 28kgs
then 32kg OAJ 12/12
then 6min. snatch with 28kg @ 12rpm
then swings 50L/50R
Exhausting!!!
But I love it, on the road to CMS!!!
The motto of Naval Special Warfare aptly applies to the Ice Chamber: “The only easy day was yesterday.”
Without question, the sand-bag mile with push presses and push-ups mixed in. I didn’t feel right for the rest of the weekend after that run.
