News from the Big Apple
Team Ice Chamber made another impressive showing this weekend at the World LongCycle Championship in NYC!
Mel won the Silver (earned CMS rank) while Jen took the Gold in their respective weight classes of the 16kg division.
Sara and Surya take it to the next level by winning two Golds in the 24kg division!
Finally, Maya took gold in her weight class and simultaneously became (along with Lorna Kleidman) one of the last women to earn a MS rank in the 20kg Long Cycle (current WKC rankings). Â With this accomplishment, the ICKB Girls became the only team in the country to be comprised 100% of Masters of Sport!

Being a part of this event was truly great. It was an absolute privilege to see Maya get her MS. Maya– that last minute of your set is something that will be burned in my mind for a long time. I know I will be drawing on it whenever I need to stay calm, stay focused, stay strong and dig a little deeper. Bear and Surya, watching you guys compete with green for the first time was incredible. And Jen, talk about digging deeper… Being next to you on the platform was great, but it sounds like I missed maybe the best moments of the meet when you gritted out those final reps. You are an amazing lifter.
Thanks to Steve, Maya, Surya and Bear for all your help and guidance. And a special thanks to Jess– I am grateful that you are willing and able to coach me, even through my most uncoachable moments. Without you, there’s no way I’d be where I am so feel free to not let me ever forget it.

Good work! It was good seeing al of you this weekend.
If there was any doubt, rest assured that the ICKB Girls are very loved and admired in this sport by lifters all over the country. They were constantly being approached by fellow lifters and fans, who wanted photos taken with them. Veritable celebrities in the KB world! And it is well deserved. Maya’s performance on the platform was so dramatic and inspiring, we all held our breath while the last seconds ticked by, her pure focus and technique never wavering until that last rep for MS when we finally saw those pearly whites! And I am still in awe at Sara and Surya’s ability to gracefully clean&jerk the greens (24kg bells) for a full ten minutes. Pretty amazing.
And to Mel, I am so proud of you, you are a great lifter and competitor, so cool under pressure and also a calming presence when I am freaking out with nervous energy. Thanks for all your help. I will clinch that CMS yet!

It was really exciting watching Maya get MS. I don’t think I took a breath the last minute though I am sure Steve didn’t breathe for the whole 10 minutes!

I continue to be humbled by the amazing adventure Kettle Bell sport has allowed me to access.
Each competition I feel privileged to watch each competitor take to the platform with such strength and conviction. On Saturday I had the joy of watching Mel and Jen give amazing performances. Mel you were on a mission and would not be stopped. Congrats on your CMS performance! Jen you never gave up, pushed yourself through each rep-a gripping performance and truly one of the highlights of the day! I have no doubt CMS will be yours!!!
Maya- congratulations on achieving MS. True to your word you did it with strength and beautiful technique! I was so happy to be there to witness such a happy moment.
