AKC Classic 2009
Congratulations to all of those that competed in the 2009 AKC Classic in Las Vegas over the weekend. It was a monumental event with two new Masters of Sport (Ukraine and U.S.) and six new Candidates for Master of Sport (Canada and U.S.) made.
We are extremely proud of everyone from the IC for giving 100%. Here are the results in their respective weight classes:

As always thank you to the AKC/WKC for this great event and for everything you guys continue to do to advance the sport and art of kettlebell lifting in the US.
I didn’t get a chance to see much of Jess’s monster set because my snatch flight was 5 minutes after her flight. So she earns her MS– an unbelievable accomplishment, and then 5 minutes later is sitting down to coach my set. That was amazing.
And mom– start practicing. Next year, you’re competing too!
Best part of the day was when Catherine, Christy, and Karen were on the platform and it was announced the Ice Chips were on stage- all three (at the same time) gave the biggest smile I have ever seen!!!
Thank you AKC/Judges/Cate etc for putting on such a great event and know all the hardwork is much appreciated.

There were so many great moments that I don’t even know where to start. Seeing Jess and Svetlana achieve mastery side-by-side was truly inspiring. I was blown away by the level of performance that all of the first timers put in. It’s a real testimony to the preparation that Bear, Steve, Maya, and Jess put us through. Thank you so much for all of your help, support, and boundless encouragement. Of course, it’s always a treat to watch Surya and Bear lift. When I grow up, I wanna lift like they do!
Thanks to all who showed up to cheer us on. Ross, Loredie, and Steph — you always brighten my day. Your bonhomie means more to me than I can ever say.

The weekend was full of exciting highs and lows. I am so proud of each lifter from the IC. You each learned something new from the experience and walked away better lifters as a result. What more can we ask for? Thank you for putting forth your best out there on the platform. Congratulations to every one of you for achieving rank!

Jessica and Svetlana’s set was one of the most exciting of my KB sport journey thus far. No one has done more for the women’s OALC event than the AKC and to see these two extraordinary lifters make history by taking their first Master of Sport rank in the Long Cycle was incredible to witness. Thank you Jess and Svetlana – We all salute you! Surya and Sara delivered an amazing 10 minutes too and I can only hope to be as great as them someday. Major thank yous are in order to Steve and CImes as usual!!!! …but it’s also important to thank Bonnie (you still own the women’s OALC). …and of course Valery for his undying contributions toward the excellence of the sport.
It was an honor to judge the set. Jess really made every rep look the same from beginning to end. It was just to bad I couldn’t watch Svetlana at the same time. Great work Ladies. I’m sure the other IC women will get MS very soon.
