Redefine

We received this wonderful and inspiring passage from Karen King this morning. Karen is another IC Supermom, Boot Camp die-hard, and weight loss winner. Thank you for sharing Karen!

“I have recently re-learned one of life’s fun little lessons: success is 10% talent and 90% perseverance. And of course, success is a moving target.
Being a big, tall girl in a family of petite women, I am not what you’d call best friends with weights, scales, and measurements. So, when I joined the Ice Chamber just about exactly a year ago, I suffered through the original weigh-in, etc., then did my very best to ignore the stats of 196 lbs., 35.2 BF, and 28.9 BMI. I set my sight on “improving my diet” (read changing my diet as little as possible!), “just feeling better and stronger” … and maybe squeezing into those size 14 jeans that were too tight.
Well, after a year, I’m still no better friends with the old scale (I am blissfully ignorant of how much I weigh), but I do feel MUCH better and stronger. And, guess what? Those size 14 jeans, fit, then were loose, then were just plain too big. I went shopping a few weeks ago. I bought and comfortably wear a size 6!
I am very grateful to you all for your encouragement and skill. And I’m grateful to the whole 10 AM and now 9 AM crews for inspiring me, challenging me, and the occasional high five.
Now let’s redefine success again!”

I had the pleasure of working out with Karen last week. What a blast! Anytime Karen. Congratulations on your success.
You rock Karen! Very well done.
I also had the pleasure of trying to keep up with Karen recently. It was great! You’re always ready to give it your all and your results are clearly visible! If you’re going to 9AM permanent you’ll be missed
Karen-congratulations! You have a great attitude around our society’s attitude toward ‘what should be.’ AND congrats on getting stronger and healthier the fun way! See you soon. Gretchen
Karen, you ROCK for sharing your original stats with everyone in light of your feelings toward the scale. Thank you for putting it all out there because you will help so many more people by talking about your starting point. Your story is Incredible and inspiring to say the least. Congratulations on surpassing your fitness goals in 2009!
Karen, thank you for the inspiring story! It’s no wonder that your daughter is full of positive energy and strength. She has the best role model around!

It’s always fun to partner with Karen. She is strong, motivating and full of great energy!!! Congratulations on being able to successful change your attitudes of fitness and healthy diet. It is something I struggle with on a daily basis. Hearing your success definitely inspires me.
Now you are going to have to knit yourself a lot of new cute sweaters in your new size for the winter months!
AND Karen packs a wallop with the medicine ball! I finally met Karen today at 10am boot camp. Congrats on your success and great perspective!
Congratulations Karen – truly inspiring!
I just love your definition of success….. so very true!!!
Check out your incredible extension, form and figure in the picture – awesome integrity! Woo hoo!
Karen you are a constant inspiration keep up the great work!!
You look terrific, Karen, and it has been inspiring to watch your progress over the past year. I have never, ever thought of you as a “big girl,” although I know from my own experience how hard those childhood labels are to shake. Why is it that tall men with big feet and hands get a second or third look and women with the same attributes are always trying to “shrink to fit?” Anyway, you are tremendous, all nearly six feet of you!
