Swing Mechanics

Jess Swing

Our friend John Monteleone wrote some great tips for “The Perfect Swing:”

  • Find personal tempo
  • Bell is weightless at the top
  • Elbow is slightly bent at the top
  • Wrist straight and turned in
  • Keep bell close to body
  • Eyes follow the bell during down swing
  • Core engaged
  • Straighten legs during the rocking phase
  • Bell travels the body’s midline during swing
  • Breath in on the way up, out on the way down
  • Swing opposite arm for momentum
  • Fingers support bell in downward motion but primary grip is the clasp
  • Bend at hips during backswing
  • Keep feet flat on the ground
  • Generate power from hips moving upwards

Great tips! Now if I can only remember them all ;)

I find that’s the challenge for me–the more kb lifting I do, the more things I realize I need to master. I suppose once you’ve mastered the points, there’s no more thought involved…”be shapeless, like water,” right Steven? ;)

    Jen,

    The more I learn, the less I know… ;-)
