We also want to send a special thank you to everyone who came out to show their support, including our team of volunteers (supporters not pictured: Joe P. and the lovely Miss Simone, Surya, Paul, Kelly & Scott, Beth T., Alex, Kenneth, Hal, Samin, Chris, Prateek, Lena and a bunch of IC children). Last, but not least, thank you to Grandma Bootown, and Sherry & Calvin for the wonderful goodies they lovingly contributed to our gathering. Also, Dougie and Susan rock for grabbing some ice for us all at the last minute.
…oh yeah and one more thing, when you see Jeremy Steinkoler next week, give him a high five for coming up with this whole idea!

What a great event! Thank you all for your hard work and beating your personal records. Can’t wait until the next one.
What a blast. Thanks!
Honorable mention must go to Sherry and Calvin: 4th place, only one point behind Kim and Ben. Nice work you two!!!
It was incredible to see all the extra effort you all put towards this great event. My husband and I just eat ice cream together … so it’s good motivation to put down the spoon and pick up the rower, barbell, BOSU, etc.
Congratulations everyone, especially to Rob and Lori, who are getting married in 2 weeks. What an awesome way to start your new life together – you two are winners!
We’re already starting our training for Decathalon 2009!
The family award should go to Renee and Rune, and to Haaken, who filled in admirably (impressively!) for his dad who couldn’t finish the competition himself because he was out helping other people.
Thanks to Jeremy for a great idea, and to Steven and Maya for turning it into another opportunity to build community.
And by the way, good luck to all the half/full marathoners running tomorrow!
That’s one impressive list! Where else could boast that many couple competitors battling it out in such a positive and supportive atmosphere? Don’t even get me started on all the great supporters!
Congrats Steve and Maya for making this unique place we call the IC.
I’m SO impressed by all the new moms that come out in such a short amount of time. I wish I would have known about the IC 6 mos. after giving birth
wow! Determination.
Impressive work lovebirds! Hosting the decathlon throughout the past month was so much fun. I’ll never forget all the priceless moments like Tracy C. crossing the finish line with her doggie Ivy in tow, Craig’s 2000 meter row, Rob’s tire sled, Rune’s BOSU collapse, Mara’s push-ups, Dougie’s push-ups, Barrett’s 400 meter sprint… man, too many gems to list them all!!!
Wow, gotta give Steve a shout-out for putting together an awesome scoring system, even though it caused quite a bit of work for him in the end (thanks for your patience everyone). Many of the couples participated in multiple events together so he spent over 35 minutes locked up in his cave tallying scores and selecting the top numbers from five categories for each couple. Great work honey!
awe, thanks John. Haakon was so proud to take his Dad’s place. I am so proud of him. Thanks Steve for letting Haakon sub in, it meant alot to him.
Rune is now home, on shift at the station. Anyone going to the Kensignton Parade shout out hi, he’ll be there!
your right Maya, Rune’s bosu collapse was impressive indeed. You’ve got that on camera, right?
Virtual partners next year?
we need a video highlight reel Steven
Working on video highlight as I type this. Too much good footage to sort through.
Thanks Steve and Maya and all of the decathlon participants for the multilple moments of inspiration. I am in awe of your speed, strenght, and endurance!
just to be clear, Rune only collapsed AFTER he rocked the bosu…um, yeah, keeping the peace in the house!
It can only be so. Rune was a stud in all events. If the LA fires didn’t occur on the same week as the final events, who knows what the outcome would have been. We’ll have to wait until next year to find out
Big thanks to Surya and Shari for helping score the last two events!
We had a blast – again, Steve and Maya, you bring out the best in us and thank you for all your extra work on this. We had an opportunity to reach personal bests and feel proud of each other! We’ll follow-up w. a 10 year anniversary next week! Congratulations to the top winners – you deserve it! Congratulations to all other participants! See you next year……
The heart and spirit of all the participants was absolutely inspiring. Congratulations to everyone. We are all proud of your accomplishments.
RE: scoring, I think distributing the scoring and letting the couples choose whose score goes where might make things easier. Not to say that the scores shouldn’t be confirmed centrally, but it would be easy.
