2008 Torch Run

Ice Chamber members come out to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics today. Thank you to Officer Reece for helping to organize this event!
1. Bootcamper Susan B. (0600) gets to finally meet one of our most famous members, the one and only Catherine J. (IC’er for the past 5 years).
2. Berkeley and Emeryville Police Departments with IC members at the finish line.
3. University Avenue is shut down for the runners. Can you name three IC members in this pic?
4. Essbee, Maya, Kirk, and Mateo at Sproul Plaza.
5. Turbo and Sara excited about… the motorcycles?

I was so busy yapping away that I missed an opportunity to take a photo of Subia!!!! She and Mary K. are another reason this small community event leaves such a big impression on my heart. We got to meet some really cool athletes thanks to BPD!
Next year, we’ll clarify how many IC’ers can participate so that more of you avid runners (sorry, walkers not allowed) can join the fun. Big thanks to Catherine J. and Erin for spreading the word this past week… also, another big thanks to Bear-Bear and Turbo for changing their Friday plans at the last minute to come out and show their support!
Sorry I couldn’t make it! I did see the tail end of the motorcade heading up University! Thanks for including the IC’ers as part of the BPD “friends”.
Sorry to have missed the fun although I would’ve been a walker (or maybe I could have hitched a ride on a motorcycle).
If you can enable the ‘click here to enlarge this photo’ feature, I’ll take a stab at photo 3 (although I think I see Essbee and Stevil).
Shari,
You would’ve gotten a ride for sure. There were many offers to Turbo and Bear
Btw, Mateo looks huge in the picture. I’m so proud of him. His first time on campus!
Although I did not run it was a lot of fun being there. There was also a lot of good looking men in uniform…
I forgot to mention that essbee was holding the torch from Sacramento to Shattuck.
More like Curtis to Jefferson, Steve, but thanks for the credit. =)
It was great fun…hopefully next year we can have more ICers out there. I was expecting a big crowd, so imagine my surprise when there were only about 15 runners total, including four from the IC! It didn’t even occur to me that I’d actually carry the torch…I thought we’d just be tagging along for the ride.
And very cool to meet Catherine, such a piece of IC history.

Um, Steve, Mateo IS huge.
