The Jessica Zone

You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension of soreness not only in your major muscle groups but also in muscles you didn’t know you had, but that you feel acutely when you weakly attempt to return her high-five. A journey into a wondrous land where “five seconds” can stretch into a really long time, and you’ll find yourself doing exercises you never imagined possible. A place where you marvel that anyone could have that much energy, and you emerge knowing you got your workout and then some.

Next stop: the Jessica Zone.

How many of us can brag that we’ve been parallel to the floor while on the pull-up bar?

It’s easy to get distracted by Jessica’s beauty, intelligence, warmth, and amazing athleticism without knowing how hard she works to ensure that every member reach their full potential. As you can imagine, this is no small task! It’s no wonder she often gets compared to a superhero. Today for example, is Jessica’s birthday, but rather than taking a spa day away from work, she is devoted to her full schedule of rock-star clients (some of whom commute over an hour just to train with her).

Please join us in honoring Jessica’s 29th birthday by highlighting your favorite Wonder Woman moment to comments.

Happy birthday to my oldest (both in age and years) and yes my bestest (really a word in Jess’s vocab) friend.

A friend who does indeed push me to the extreme in my physical fitness level/accomplishments and more often than not to that dark side in which extreme nausea is a common side effect. Yikes! Thanks again for showing us all what we are made of and helping us know we can really do one more. You have truly found your calling…

Hope you have a wonderful day doing all things that you love to do. In case you didn’t know anything fitness related is at the top of her list. :-) Hehe

Love you lots and lots- Your Bear bear buddy

P.S. Did you know this our 23 time celebrating your b-day together? Wow, were did the time go?

  2. Shari says:

I love Jess. And she is equally evil and adorable, which is such a deadly combination.

My favorite Jess moment is watching her teach Etta cartwheel skills. She was as focused, serious and encouraging with Etta as she was with an adult, paying client. Like Ivy, Etta still talks about her lesson with Jess.

My least favorite Jessica moments are any that involve tuck-jumping IN BETWEEN circuit rounds. Oh, and watching and listening to her “tough love” her clients.

  3. Shari says:

Oh, I almost forgot – Happy Birthday you incredibly beautiful and gifted woman. Thank you for enriching our lives everyday!

  4. Julie B says:

Happy birthday! I’ve learned to throw out the clock, the timer, and any attempt to count when you are in the IC house. I so look forward to the Jessica zone!

  5. Jenny (K.) says:

Happy Birthday Jessica! You are so amazing and inspiring. I love your workouts, your humor and your sparkle. But, most of all, I love that you love Nico!!! So, my favorite Jessica moment was your happy surprise when a black, floppy dog (which you hadn’t noticed during class) emerged from the kettle bell area. When are you going to get a puppy? (Check out joaquinthdog.com). Enjoy the last of the 20′s. The good news is that it keeps getting better.

  6. Rachel Q says:

21 looks good on you, girl! Happy, happy birthday. I think my favorite memories of Jess are hard to describe because she is always moving so damn fast; she is just a blur! But what you *can* see is her big heart, her strong-a** muscles, and those beautiful dimples and eyes. Total babe. And a great coach to us bootcampers. Have fun celebrating!

  7. Elizabeth says:

The post says it all! Thanks for the fun, creative and enthusiastic workouts! I’m still recovering from the 100 reps of everything workout on Monday… I hope you have a great day!

    Happy 29, 29, 29, 29, 29 (hold for one more) 29th B-day!!!!

  8. Val says:

Thanks for all your hard work and happy birthday Jess! You’re a true hero and inspiration; a great coach and motivator. I sincerely appreciate your hard work and the energy you bring to the IC, and the kindness and guidance you provide every session.

No matter the griping, I especially love your time keeping skills. They bring out the fierceness in us all. Don’t even think of changing them!

  9. Mary M says:

Happy Happy Bday Jess! You truly are an inspiration. I definitely work hard whenever you are around (or at least you totally kick my butt when you’re around). I love your ever encouraging shouts of “come on! come on!” and all your high fives. Sending you a double high-five + birthday hug out to you. May you enjoy turning 29 every year from here on out!

  10. John says:

    Hey Jess, happy birthday!

It’s hard to add to all that’s been said (except that you are an award winning triathlete, no small feat)! My favorite moments (recently) are doing the tri with you and your hubby, and allowing Miles to create the circuit when he came to personal training. He still does it on the lawn! You’re the greatest, and I’m looking forward to the next triathlon (before the summer ends, I hope).

  11. Steven says:

Happy Birthday Jessica! My favorite Jess moment occurred the other day when she said, “…no problem Steve, it’s done…” You can’t beat that :-)

But in all seriousness, besides being the all-encompassing leader/motivator that she is, Jess is a great friend and a person we can always depend on. It’s a blessing to have her in our lives!

  12. Joanna says:

That post just hits the nail on the head. I enter the Jessica Zone with ambivalence, knowing that clock time doesn’t exist there and that hard work will go on and on (!), but then I leave totally high with endorphins and a sense of accomplishment. Jess, you’re an awesome trainer and I love how you push each and every one of us with your individual attention- thank you and happy birthday!

  13. Mallory says:

    Happy Birthday!

My favorite Jess All Star moment was going to watch her run the Tri, which was amazing in itself, but then she trained me afterward and totally put a Jess Zone beating on me. Sweetness. Keep being awesome. Thanks for everything you do for me and I hope you have a great birthday filled with your favorite people and treats!

  14. KimM says:

    Jess,

Miles has a birthday joke for you:
“There are three kinds of people: those who can count, and those who can’t.” Do you get it… yet?

Jess, you can push me to achieve beyond what I thought I was capable of, and even when you’re not physically near me, I hear your cheerful voice: “Oh, yeah, this is really hard, ooooh!” echoing in my mind and I redouble my efforts. (This may be a problem some day…)

I am grateful for the time we’ve spent together – and anticipating the future together as well. You are an unusually focused and grounded woman and I’m lucky to know you.

So, let’s begin the birthday countdown in…5…4…3…2…2…2…2..

    (See what it feels like????)

    xoxo

    Kim

  15. Father says:

Okay, my little girl is 29. I guess I can’t be 39 anymore.
Jessica Molly Cort Dibiase you are a wonderful daughter, great
friend and obviously one heck of an athelete.
I have seen her go parallel on the monkey bars at the park, but
she weighed 50 pounds at the time.
Don’t create too much pain for your devoted clients, have fun
and go get a massage my little PB.
    Love,
    Dad

  16. Leslie Price says:

Happy Birthday Jess! You are one of the few people who actually manage to look cute in a swim cap. (Check out the blog entry on the triathalon, and you’ll see what I mean.)

My favorite Jess moments are when she demos her moves and then gets this look on her face and says, “Oh yeah,” as in, “Oh yeah this is really going to hurt really alot. Have fun.”

    Have a terrific birthday!

  17. Eva B says:

    You are Jesseriffic! Happy Birthday!

  18. Douglas, Susan and Rylee says:

Jessica – You are the best. Monday and Tuesday nights are my favorite nights of the week. They are ‘Jessica Nights’. The people who have known you since childhood are lucky people. I am lucky to know you for 2+ years so far.

The first night we met — You rushed over to hold my feet down during sits-ups. I so vividly remember that as such a caring and positive thing to do — as I was completely unable to do more than 5 sit-ups unassisted. And those acts of generosity and caring have never stopped.

On another note — ‘We’ do have a small problem with counting. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed it before. I wanted to mention it before someone else says something . Counting from 3,2,1 is not suppose to take 5 minutes. This is the Ice Chamber, not NASA — T minus 5 seconds and holding. :-)

Jessica, I love you. I owe what I am able to do today to you. You have empowered me and so many others to keep growing and accomplishing.

    p.s. Rylee adores you too.

  19. Turbo says:

Hey where did my comment go that I posted yesterday? hmmm could it be that I was so excited it was jess birthday that I forgot to push send…dang it. I hope you had a great birthday. OMG!! how cute was her dad’s comment….tear. Anyhoo luv my Jess. Who else would give me such a crazy nickname, but this great person that pushes me to my limits.

  20. eric f says:

Jessica – what does it take to help someone push past their limits and do with a feeling of “soul-glow’? Whatever it is, you’ve got it. Elevating our levels of goodness at the same time as our levels of fitness. Favorite moments/quotes – “Hi E!”. “I love how much effort you guys are giving”, “2…yeah…… 2 ……ohhh……..2……c’mon…”, “thank you SO MUCH for being here”. Happy Birthday J!!

  21. Calvin says:

Jessica’s energy is contagious, especially when you are hovering on the brink of defeat. The Hi-fives she doles out are like shots of expresso. Thank you Jessica for your enthusiasm and spirit – you make getting a butt-whooping fun.

  22. Sam W. says:

Enjoy the moment Jessica-you are a truly amazing force! Thank you for sharing your giagantic heart and explosive energy with all of us!

  23. Tracy C says:

Happiest of nearly 30 birthdays Jessica!!! I appreciate you SO much, I want you to know. Aside from your super-duper infectious energy, your ability to zero in on individuals as you run around, count down and encourage is uncanny, truly. Oh, and beside the fact you (in combo w. Kelly) have nearly killed me, I still love you. You rule, and I’m glad for the opportunity to tell you.

  24. Loredie says:

Jessica, I hope you had a fantastic birthday. Every thing about you on this board is true. Thank you, for being you. All the positivity you give to others has come back to you. You are very much loved. Have a great 29th year!

  25. Renee says:

You had that special something back when you were in the third grade! (bear bear too)! How else does that explain that I remembered you when we met at the IC again after so many years? You are one special person Jess! Happy Birth Year!

  26. Lisa B says:

    Happy Belated Birthday Jess!!!!
Hope you enjoyed your day as well as making everyone give you their best in the workout!! Your energy is amazing and I just love the way you get right down on the floor with all of us and count out the reps to get us through to the end – it really is incredibly motivating!
Your smile is infectious! THANK YOU!!!!
    xxoo

  27. Brenda says:

Gee Jess, I don’t know what to say. There is no one more warm, encouraging and tough! You should run a country! You know how I feel about you – that’s why you get hugs all the time. Happy belated birthday. You are appreciated everyday! (I loved the comments from your Daddy-0)

  28. Mr Pickles' Mom says:

Happy belated birthday Jess. I have truly enjoyed your pushing me that extra mile. I can’t believe the amount of energy you have. I love your enthusiasm and I love your kind spirit. I am so glad to be a part of the IC team and so glad you are there with your smile and grace. Thank goodness for people like you or else I’d quit during the first 2-2-2-2-2 minutes.

    Happy BIRTHDAY,
    Kris the sweet smelling one

  29. Pamela G says:

Jessica! My favorite Jess moment was last Friday, the first time I saw her after my spectacular fall! She laid eyes on me and immediately started toward me, arm out for a hug and that penetrating “Wow, girl!” look in her eye. But there have been plenty more. When Jess shows up it’s go time, and I inwardly groan a little, knowing nothing will escape her notice! But that’s what we’re here for! Those sparkling eyes in the front and (must be) in the back of her head also, and that extra push. Thanks for keeping it real, Jess! And keeping us going for the gold. You’re the greatest.
