Running Mechanics

Thanks to Suzanne Schafer of 0900, here is a great technical video for runners published in the New York Times yesterday about Olympic hopeful Sara Hall. These drills should be familiar to our Morning Bootcampers as we’ve been practicing them throughout the past few months. Pay special attention to the technical nuances in the video (dorsiflexing the foot, booty kicks, etc.) and experiment with them while running this week. Have fun!

Survival

Whether you like it or not, having to scale a fence in an emergency is a possibility. Tonight the Core group put their skills to the test.

courtney

Courtney comes from a strong lineage of IC veterans. Although Father Elliot, sister Mattison, and buddy Therese (in purple tank) all have experienced the ins-and-outs of our programs, Courtney is a relative beginner to athletic strength and conditioning. Based on the advice of her loved ones, Courtney decided to balance the books (she’s a straight A student with remarkable SAT scores) with exercise before heading off to college this Fall. The decision is paying big dividends: lingering back pain is gone, core strength has doubled, and yesterday she was cranking out full push-ups for the first time.

Keep up the great work Courtney!

Jenny K in the Spotlight

Jenny K

Jenny has been on a tear as of recent. She is usually found in 0900 as well as Core doing everything humanly possible to get stronger and faster. On last check, Jenny was punishing the opposing team on the rope wave wars; unrelenting for 2 minutes straight (that is tough)! Not only is Jenny a hardy competitor, she’s also one of the best comrades one can have in partner workouts. Since joining the IC in October of 2007, Jenny’s athletic performance has shot through the roof. Be sure you say hello the next time you see her. She deserves all the props, and then some!

Kristin

Here is a pic of Kristin teaching the 0700 class. If you’ve ever had a chance to work with her in the morning, you’ll know that she’s friendly, helpful, and supportive. But did you also know that she’s just as fierce, focused, and intense when it comes to getting some serious reps in with the Core group? For those of us who are lucky enough to train alongside Kristin in the evenings, we know that nothing can stop her when it comes to cleaning and jerking the KB. She has the tats to prove it. Not only is Kristin an invaluable addition to our training staff, she’s one of our most humble and dedicated athletes. Go Kristin!
