Skinny Jeans

skjeans

I haven’t officially gotten into my old skinny jeans yet, but I have made considerable progress in recent months thanks to a lot of positive thinking and some good hard training. Celebrating particular markers of strength and fitness have definitely been the best part about my postpartum journey so far. Revisiting my old PRs seems so fresh and exciting. I’m discovering new reasons to love this stuff nearly every day. I have lost over 40 lbs. since Mateo was born (+ 10 lbs. if you include his weight), but it’s taken 10 months to get here and still, the marathon isn’t over. Wish me luck on this final leg of the race.

Everyone at the IC continues to serve as my main source of inspiration—especially all of our ladies who gave birth last year: Sherry, Rachel Q., Holly, Tae, Amy J., Amy I., Andrea, Megan, Shauna, Lorena, and Gladys just to name a few. The IC has become quite the hub for postpartum success stories (Ndeshi is still our reigning Queen, but Loredie’s in line for the throne) and I’m proud to be among you fine mamas. The collective support swirling through the gym these days is serving as a life-line for a lot of people (myself included).

Well I think we all know that Maya ROCKS! In addition to losing weight and performing amazing feats of strength and skill each and every day, she still takes the time to help support us in our goals … a pretty incredible feat. I remember about a month ago she set a new pull-up record, and I turned to Steven and said “your wife just set a new PR.” And he said “she sets new ones every day!” What an incredible role model. Congratulations, Maya … all your hard work shows!

there’s an oldie song that just came to mind…”the leader of the pack”- that’s you Maya! ( at least that line-I don’t know the rest of the song!)

Maya, you are looking great. What an incredible amount of ground you have covered in weight loss. Keep up the great work. I am going to use you as inspiration for my own goals…..

Wow 40++ (I really think you should the extra 10) lbs. That is really great. Not to mention you are blowing your PR’s out of the water. What an inspiration to not only the house mama’s but all of us. Thanks for sharing your stories and putting a human factor to the whole fitness life thing…

So when are you going to have a fashion show?

Maya, you are the bomb!!!! I want to be just like you when I grow up. I love all of your encouragement and extra pushes when it gets tough. You look and ARE truly FAB! I am so glad I joined the IC. Everyone has been so nice and helpful. Don’t ever stop.

Maya, you’re amazing, I knew you were looking fantastic, but 40 lbs??? Incredible! I am so happy for you. You have always been an inspiration to me, from the very first day I met you. You celebrate life with a contagious positive attitude and belly aching humor (you know I love your side comments) but with serious determination to get the best out of people and yourself. I love seeing you back in the gym, coaxing folks to keep going and keep pushing, all the while you are setting and achieving all your own goals. Thanks for sharing your story. You’re the best!

Don’t forget to include all the weight you’ve helped other people lose! You can count my 20+ lbs! You and the IC trainers are way more motivating than a pair of skinny jeans!

I’m glad I convinced Maya to write an update… So many inquiries on her progress, as well as kind thoughts and words from everyone. Thank you!

    Julie B,

I saw you this morning outside of the Chamber. I wanted to tell you at the time that you look awesome, but I was on the phone and you didn’t see me. So, here it is: You Look Awesome!

Maya, someday I hope to be 1/10th of the athlete you are. You are unstoppable.

Maya, I was blown away yesterday when I saw you at the IC – you looked so great. But then I was even more blown away by how you just took me aside and pushed me, it’s like you know exactly what a person needs. You are so generous with your positive energy and are such an awesome inspiration for all of us – thanks.

Maya, you look wonderful! I hadn’t seen you at the Ice Chamber for a while and when I saw you the other day, I noticed that you were looking tiny. I had no idea that you’ve lost 40 lbs! Congratulations!!! You’re truly an inspiration. From day one of my IC experience, you’ve always been so friendly and kind. Thanks for all the support and words of encouragement at Boot Camp!

You guys are awesome. Thank you!

So many of you who commented above have PHENOMENAL weight loss stories of your own. Seriously I draw courage and drive from each one of you. Thanks for all the virtual high-fives!

Maya, I remember the day Steve told me you were pregnant. I was supposed to train with you but you were home sick for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. When Steve told me you were pregnant, my first thought was “Yipee!” My second thought was that you would be incredibly inspiring to watch pregnant and post-partum. I was right too.

The excitement you have around you right now is palpable and contagious. You light up the room. And while I thought you were one of the hottest pregnant women ever, post-partum you are smokin’, especially with that super stylish haircut you are rockin’ right now.

Thanks for helping me transform my body to my pre-baby, well, actually, I never looked like this pre-baby. So extra thanks then.

I can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!

  16. Loredie says:

Maya, you are looking HOT mama! You are inspiring to all, especially the moms. Umm, do you have any tips on how to lose the postpartum “muffin top?”

  17. Shari Washburn says:

I just have to give a shout out to all those IC mamas who had babies in the last year. You sisters rock! It took all of my energy just to get out of bed in the morning. But to push myself the way you women push yourselves every day? Damn! I worship each and every one of you!

  18. Steven says:

    Shari,

You deserve so much props yourself. You’re a wonderful mom, fantastic friend, and a great student. Most recently you’ve taken the time to ask the questions, and then follow through (almost to perfection) when advice/direction was offered. I’ve notice huge improvements in everything you do. Keep up the excellent work :-)

  19. Shari says:

Aw, shucks! Thanks. I have excellent teachers.

  20. Ndeshi says:

    Wow, Maya.
When I saw you last Monday, I thought you looked really really good ( actually, I mean HOT), but had no idea you lost 40+ lbs. Congratulations! I agree with everyone that you are such an inspiration to all of us. In addition to working on your own goals, you are always ready to help us IC achieve our own goals and beyond.

  21. Lisa B says:
