The Grip

A strong grip is critical to developing overall body strength. Here’s a nice test. Next time you back squat, try two variations; one with a loose soft grip, and the other with a tense tight grip. Can you guess which of the two leads to a stronger squat?
With his tentacle-paws, Baby Mateo can grab and lift objects 1.5x his size (e.g. instead of sitting on his large toy train rocker, he flips it upside down and places it on his lap). Tell us a story of your grip strength development and how it has enhanced your athletic performance.

IC Tip of the Day: using weightlifting gloves hinders grip strength.

Kelley, thank you for bringing the tam o’shanter back from Scotland. As you can see, Baby Mateo loves it!
ok- I can’t tell a story, I’m fixed on how freakin adorable Mateo is!
Goodness, your baby is so beautiful I could just eat him.
In a completely nonthreatening, cute is delicious, sort of way.
p.s. I think my grip has got better over the past week because term as started and I am taking so many effing pages of notes! My hands ache!
Rock climbing is the single best thing I ever did to improve my grip strength. After a single session my forearms burn for hours and after a few months I noticed an ability to “pinch” holds which previously had seemed glass smooth and useless.
Mateo never cease to amaze me with each photo taken of him…He’s too cute!! Mateo, what is your secret to never having a bad photo day (besides the fact that you are wayyyyy cuter than me:)?
Oh Kelly…. just read a recipe for Guinness Cake… can’t even imagine the delectability of that…. oh wait — Mateo simply TAKES THE CAKE!!!
Thank you guys for sharing the picture. He is amazing.
I know, I know, GET A GRIP.
The only thing I want to grip is that BABY! How is being that cute even legal?
Mateo is too KYUTE for words. this little guy is gonna be a heartbreaker!
Soooo cute!
OMG! He just keeps getting more and more gorgeous! I didn’t think that was possible given how utterly perfect and adorable Mateo was the last time I saw him! I am so glad that he enjoys his tam o’shanter. I saw it in Edinburgh and I just had to get it for him!
Ahhhhhh. Bring him to the IC so I can get a baby fix. What a cutie pie!
How can you post a picture of Mateo and then ask us to tell a story? It is impossible to do, he is so distracting because he is so freaking cute!!
Nothing has improved my grip strength more than the deadlift.
Thumb wrestling with the little one.
I love Mateo!
