Gold Is Still Up For Grabs!

The Rowing Challenge was on fire this morning. Is there something in the windy summer air? Patty Harper was determined to seal the deal on her gold medal and shaved 3 seconds off her time. Go Patty! She still holds the record for the IC females, but this time it’s at 3.45.9!
Congratulations to all the participants who are successfully breaking their records this week! You all should feel quite proud of yourselves. We will post all the winners’ names by the end of this week.
What has been the most difficult part of rowing 1000 meters for time? At what point within the race do you feel the most confident?

we’re so happy the kids woke up early this morning, so we could come to class! The hardest part was (is) now, the jet lag, sitting on our butts and eating danish cheese for three weeks, and the challenge this the morning is hitting both of us. now. But, we’re both glad we did it. Even though as we walked in I said”i’m not rowing this morning!” A special thank you to Maya for the great coaching once again. It’s great to go away, but nice to come back to the IC and get back in gear.
The most difficult part is shushing all the self-doubt that creeps in at about 579 meters. Oh yeah, and losing leg power is pretty challenging. I feel most confident when sprinting the last 20 meters because I know it’s almost over.
579 meters? Self-dout whispers in my ear as soon as I sit down and is roaring at around 425 meters…
Renee and Rune – welcome back!!! I missed you guys!!!
missed you too-see you tonight or tomorrow!
the most difficult part of this challenge is holding in the upchuck in the last 200 meter sprint. I was not at all confident about this challenge (in fact, I was totally scared). I have never been competitive, ever. Who knew I had it in me? I didn’t. You guys are creating rowing monsters.
Go Patty, your time is totally impressive! That’s a hard act to follow.
FYI…my elbow feels much better today, so I will be back in the saddle to beat my score tommorow.
welcome back renee and rune.
Guys, Renee took 32 seconds off her time this morning! …and Rune came in at 3.27 with gas left in the tank. Kerri for the record, I always knew you had it in you; I just didn’t know it would be rowing! In other news, Shari, Kerri and Joanna broke their records on the 200 yesterday. Grrreat.
Since I already shaved time off my previous 1000 PR and beat my 200 yesterday, how about I just row 5 200s tomorrow and we call it done?
I am with Shari about the doubt that creeps in around 425 meters in. My brain says things like “you aren’t even half way there yet”. I try and focus on my pace and the fact that it will all be over in a few minutes.
I also love how Shari tries some negotiation tactics here but then rows her 1000 last night anyway. Why? Cause she’s a bad-ass.
Congrats to Brenda too for digging deep and coming in with an awesome time.
