Ok, I am blogging. I never have since I started the IC, so there have been a couple “firsts” in my 40s. I need not share the others here. Who knew that the IC and community could be so transforming and an injury so demoralizing. I “tweaked” – such a terrifc word to describe so many things, huh? – my two floating ribs – actually the muscles around them and geeez, has it wrecked havoc on my…well, everything. The fateful moment was a burpee ! Yup, but to give homage to an otherwize great exercize, it was likely a cumulative thing. I took two weeks off the IC boot camp, grinding my teeth, ice-ing and living vicariously through my wonderful friend Paty who was more that gleeful to tell me about the circuits I had missed. I returned to “tweak” again and yet, it was precious as I was able to watch everyone and spend a few lovely moments with Maya and boot camp baby Mateo. As much as the workouts, and the incessant sweating, which Eric pointed out may be due to all the clothing (including beanie cap) I wear each day, I realized I miss the community – Steve, Kelly, Eric, Wendy, Houston, Greg – ok, I am good with names, so I won’t belabor it… I’ll be back soon and in the meantime, who knew hopscotch could be so challenging? I will peel away the layers as I continue my transformation… Thanks for the support.
Unfortunately, injuries happen. When we are active, we take the risks. I would rather dive into physical activities than remain sedentary and never risk becoming injured so you did the right thing by training hard (with heart). We miss you already and I’m sure you will be back sooner than you think!
That was so fun last night! I can’t wait to go to work in a skirt today and if anyone asks me about the genesis of my thrashed and bruised lower calves, I’ll just smile slyly, look them dead in the eye and say, “Rope burns.” People will look at Elliot in a whole new way…
Thanks, Steve, for another excellent challenge. It is fun to find, at almost-40, that I can climb a rope. Never knew it.
Thursday night was a blast. When my Steve gets back from London today, I am going to have some serious explaining about my bruised inner-thighs. After the “a kettle bell bruised my crotch” excuse on our anniversary, I think I am going to need photos for this one.
Great work guys. I know some of you were really scared, but remember that we are all only as strong as our weakest link. Who ever said climbing would be easy?
I have to add my thanks as well — that was so much fun last night! I’ve been smiling and telling everyone how much fun I had last night. The bruise on my inner thigh is quite impressive as well, so impressive it’s been hard not to show anyone but I guess that would not really be an appropriate thing to do in the workplace

That looks fun! Miles and I would like to try Gibbons, Koalas, and Gazelles!

Don’t forget about us Badgers! Hehehe. Thursday nights class was so fun. Thanks Steve.

P.S. The gibbon looks so cute and graceful. How come I look much more like an angry orangutan when I climb? No fair.
John, we owe you, Kim, and Miles big time!!! Uh oh, be careful what you wish for!

Therese,
Next Thursday: chains. What will you tell your co-workers then?
Mani,
Thanks for all of your help and support last night. Not sure I would’ve made it to the top without you!
