Karma

One month ago, I vowed to share my post-baby weight loss struggles with you. What was I thinking? Not only are basic movements like body rows and leg assisted pull-ups extremely difficult, everyone I know and love continues to shower me with irresistible goodies straight out of grandma’s kitchen. As if having a c-section wasn’t going to be hard enough…

The good news is that running and uphill walking feel totally manageable. The bad news is that Mateo is in the 96th percentile of the heaviest babies in the country so every time I put him in his sling, he feels 10 pounds heavier. I guess this is the karma I deserve after torturing so many of you on this very same hill.

I’m now making secret appearances at the IC in order to train privately. I’m too afraid that you’ll take one look at my midsection and ask that dreaded question every new mom fears, “When is the baby due?” …or worse, you’ll ask Steve behind my back. Perhaps once I’m able to swing Momma Bell again (that’s Baby Bell down there folks), I’ll feel courageous enough to show my face. But until then, here’s a sneak peek at humility in action.

I’m guilty of dropping off goodies–sorry!…and so I know what a hill that is. The thought of running (or even walking) up it scares me. You know we would all love to see you at the IC ( we MISS you!) and will bask in your return to form. You are inspiring.

Maya…one sentence…you are phenomenal, awesome, inspiring, strong, funny, beautiful, determined, and you can still kick any of our asses!!

It’s not karma, mama. It’s post-partum. Your body changed over the course of 40+ weeks. So, keep working to gain strength but allow yourself the time to change your body back.

FWIW, I still want to be you when I grow up, even if you can’t swing the Mama bell. If I had half your drive and determination, I’d be thrilled.

Oh, and Maya, you get no sympathy for the cake. Remember, you’re the one who pushed me to give up refined carbs. Do you need to start sending me your food diary?

The look on your face in that first picture kills me and makes me miss you even more.

I hate that hill, but at the moment I wish I could walk up it over and over.

Maya – You are simply amazing! Your strength (both physical and mental), intelligence, and wicked sense of humor make you one of the most fabulous people I have ever met! Which is, of course, why I listened to every single thing that you told me when we were training together. Here is one thing that I learned from you, fall in love with the movement and the joy of getting stronger with each passing day. I can’t wait to see you again!

Eat some cake and give yourself a break. Or don’t eat the cake but still, give yourself a break there mama. It’s been exactly 8 weeks (happy birthday Mateo!). You know what I did for exercise at 8 weeks post-partum? Got off the couch to get more chocolate chip cookies!

BTW, I do love that first photo of you.

I hardly know you and you are my hero.

Enjoy your time with the scrumptious baby morsel and don’t get too caught up in the post partum baby flab blues. It comes with the territory and is a right of passage that NO ONE can begrudge you. Mateo will grow so fast and change every day right before your eyes; every moment is precious right now.

Ruby has been 95th percentile all her life (75% of it is cheeks!) and I congratulated myself for just getting out walking every day after she was 4 weeks old, and here you are swinging kettle bells and trucking up hills!
    You are loved, woman!

btw…is home made multigrain bread kosher? I’ll bring some more!

Go Maya go. Most of us have been where you are at…it is tougher than those damn supermodels make it look. Maya, you know I am just down at the bottom of that hill if you ever want us to watch the little guy so you can have a little mental break on your walks. Keep it up!

9 months on — 9 months off, girl. In my case, it’s going on 4 years. Don’t sweat it, or sweat it. Either way, YOU LOOK POSITIVELY BEAUTIFUL.

thanks for the continued source of inspiration Maya!
