What are these?

Colorful Dumbbells

Though we don’t use these fun looking toys very often, they do have their place in the fitness world. We lovingly call them puppy weights which serve to prepare most members for the big dogs. Unless you’re injured and doing some rehab work, you were probably just starting out at the IC when you first played with these puppies. What movement(s) were you working on at that time? By comparison, what weight(s) would you pick up when performing those same exercises now?

You totally read my mind. Going into my second week with no lifting, I am beginning to experience muscle atrophy. I was thinking that I would check in to see if I could start lifting again and imagined Steve said, “yes” and then handing me the yellow weights.

  2. Steven says:

You were on my mind when I took this picture. To be more accurate, I took the picture because of you. :-)

  3. Shari says:

Great. Thanks. Oh, and my ego just screamed thanks too!

  4. Shari says:

Comrade, do you have any idea how torturous that will be for this fighter? Worse than having to come to class but not being allowed to work out.

  5. Renee says:

the big request in this household is from Annakari, “could Steve get pink ones too?”

I’m sure I used those when I first started but all I remember is being really, really sore for weeks that turned into months!

  6. Shari says:

Hey! Why is this filed under “comic relief?” I don’t find this comical at all?

More importantly, why have I now responded 4 times? Hmmm…seems somebody touched a nerve…

  7. Steven says:

    Renee,

Ivy controls the pink ones. Annakari will have to get permission from the platypus master.

    Shari,

The picture was a trap, set just for you. It seems, my fighter, you’ve fell right into it. The lesson is patience. Confucius said, “It does not matter how slow you go so long as you do not stop.”

  8. Renee says:

good thing Ivy and Annakari get along!

  9. Shari says:

Does that mean I can use the green weights in class tomorrow? I promise to be patient and slow and cautious.

ha ha! i remember my first day at the IC and steve handed me 8 lb weights for push presses, i did about 2 reps and maya gave me a funny look and handed me the baby wieghts. i was crushed! but, now…at full capacity? i can press 25′s. yeah baby…the IC do me good.

  11. Baby Ks Momma says:

Juliet, thank goodness you were mature enough to handle that moment. Now, help me press the 25s after I graduate away from the puppies again this summer (what goes around comes around).

  12. juliet says:

yes indeedy, mature on the outside, but my inner child was throwing a tantrum! of course, we will all be there cheering when you return!

  13. John says:

Hey! It’s a picture of Baby K’s bedroom!

  14. Steven says:

LOL JOHN! I was just thinking the same… Baby K needs sets of greens, blues, purples, and yellows (Ivy has our pinks).

  15. juliet says:

kinda looks like a little red wagon too! perfect for baby k’s room…

  16. Shari says:

Hey, Juliet. How about your inner child and my inner child struggle through a rehabilitative work out tomorrow? You game?

  17. John says:

    Steven,

Don’t forget a little tiny evil wheel to complet the set!
