Precious Little One

Etta DVD

Little Ms. Etta has been a regular at the Ice Chamber since her mommy (Shari the Great) started training here last summer. Etta often keeps herself busy by watching her mommy train hard and by taking a break to sing along her favorite DVD: Free to Be… You and Me, a 70′s classic featuring Marlo Thomas, Harry Belafonte, and Alan Alda. Like Shari, Little Ms. Etta has been working on her running and sprinting skills while reciting the entire script by memory in case the producers remake the series and need a fresh face to play Princess Atalanta. Hats off to Little Ms. Etta for her progressive and inspirational interest in fitness and children’s entertainment.

She and Ivy are wonderful (Rielly too ) additions-my kids always brighten up when they are there. Sorry Shari I introduced you to disney princesses a little early, Free to be is much sweeter!

Princess Atalanta rocks. She runs track, trains hard in order to protect her future, and ends up in a tie with her potential beau after a full on sprint to the finish line.  I think I’ll add this movie to my list of inspirational films.

A few months ago, I walked in on Etta singing along to “Parents Are People” (which is why I linked it first).

I said, “oh, that’s such a cute song.”

    Etta’s response: “I know, it’s a song about parrots.”

Etta is such a good kid. She listens well and follows instructions.

One thing to note is her superb verbal skills. I wonder who she gets that from?

  5. Elisha says:

So cute! I still have the “Free to Be You and Me” vinyl record from when I was a kid saved somewhere in my attic. Some things stick with you for life!

oh and etta? cute as anything. “it’s not a metal medal…” about the medals given out at the party.

Etta is the cutest thing ever. Shari and I were stretching partners one day and Etta came out to talk to us. Throughout the entire conversation she circled us like a great white shark while she went on and on about this and that. I thought I might die from the cuteness of it.

Other Etta comments about the medal from the party: “It’s made of plastic. Should I call it a plastic?” “It has a one on it because I won it.”

    Love her.

  8. Jennifer says:

I LOVE Free to Be You and Me!! It was the soundtrack of my childhood!

  9. Etta says:

I really like”Free to Be You and Me” but I don’t know where it is and I’m not that much into it right now. I’m really into Sagwa now.

  10. Shari says:

I know I’m biased but I do think Etta’s pretty amazing. And I so appreciate that she can come to the IC and watch her mama taking care of herself. My greatest wish is that my little girls grows up want to be STRONG not skinny, POWERFUL not pretty.

Renee, it was Barbie movies you exposed Etta to – we’ve been saturated with Disney princesses for some time now. Thankfully, she’s more interested in the Chinese Siamese cat than Barbie’s Fairytopia.

And Steve, she gets her verbal skills from her Ivy League-educated dad. Now when she starts cussin’ and fussin’, then you’ll know whose materna influence that is.

  11. Steven says:

Didn’t I hear Etta say “truck it!” the other day?

  12. Shari says:

Not my girl. She is constantly saying to me, “Mom! Don’t say ‘shit!’ “
