This is the net effect of giving 100%.

Heavy Lifting

Maria Body Lock Squat

Maria Jesus Aguilo picks up 100lb punching bag like groceries. Just another day at the I.C.

On the Topic of Pull-ups

The pull-up is a fundamental movement for developing superior upper body strength; the variations are limitless. I’ve convinced Steve to share and demonstrate some of his favorites.

Steve chin-up
Basic Chin-up: With a supinated grip, Steve drives his elbows down past his ribs so that his chin clears the bar.

Steve Behind the Neck Pull-up
Behind the Neck Pull-up: With a pronated wide grip, Steve focuses on using his lats to pull his body up and in front of the bar. At the end of the movement, his trapezius and the bar connects.

Steve side to side pull-up
Sui-Sides: Using an alternated close grip, Steve starts underneath the bar, with his body’s midline (sagittal plane) parallel to it. He moves side to side, alternating right and left shoulder to the bar, as he performs each pull-up.

Steve Flying Body Row
Flying Body Row: With a pronated grip, Steve kips his body up into a horizontal position to complete the body row in midair.

Steve Weight Pull-up
Weighted Pull-up with Kettlebells: Using an alternated grip, Steve hooks his feet into two kettlebells and pulls with his lats to finish a classic dead hang pull-up. No kipping on this one.

Finger Grip Close up
Steven Fingers Pull-up
Climber’s Pull-up: Using only his index and middle fingers, Steve gets his chin over the bar. This is a great exercise for rock climbers.

Steven One Arm Pull-up
One Arm Pull-up: Using one arm, Steve muscles his way up to the top. This one is perhaps the most difficult to perform. ;-)

2 for 1 Special

Joanna & Tsan

Congratulations to Joanna (left) and Tsan (right) for setting new pull-up records today! Joanna went from 1 to 8 perfectly executed reps in one day! Tsan busted out 3 awesome pull-ups to bring in the New Year in style.

Flying through Mexico

Eva Zip Line

Eva flies upside down on a zipline above a jungle canopy in Mexico, sporting her lovely IC Tank. As Borat would say, “vbery nice.”

The Shoe-Off

Group Shoes

Shoes speak volumes about a person. Do they choose function over form, or form over function? Are they an attention hound or a modest mouse? Do they have complete loyalty to one brand or style, or do they flit from shoe to shoe? Do they go for a nice, classy, white-and-silver sneaker, or could low-flying planes detect them by their vivid footwear? We’ve taken the shoes of some well-known Chamber folks and laid them out for you in a nice “Brady Bunch” grid. See if you can guess which soles belong to which souls. The first person to name all twelve correctly wins a one-of-a-kind Powerbar, which comes in its own handy travel wrapper. Good luck, and let the games begin…

Integrative Training with Christina

chris ball toss

Christina is an avid cyclist and swimmer who has been training with us for over three years. Despite facing major obstacles such as back surgery and a painful shoulder injury, Chris has continued to prioritize physical training – even through graduate school at Cal Berkeley! We are proud to say that through strength training (including weightlifting and body weight conditioning), her back is perhaps the strongest it’s ever been. Chris has taught us that regardless of our circumstances, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not only possible, but key to a speedy recovery.
